REGISTRATIONS ARE NOW BEING ACCEPTED FOR OUR GARDENING CLASSES AND WORKSHOPS SCROLL DOWN TO LEARN MORE AND TO REGISTER ONLINE.

If an event does not have a fee or a class limit, there is no need to register. Just show up a 15 minutes before the start of the event to be sure that you get a seat under our teaching tent.

Our Garden Walks are held in our Demonstration Gardens. Please dress for walking on uneven ground and be sure to bring a hat and sunscreen.

Get Ready for Hummingbirds 

Hours: 10-11am FREE

Join bird lover Suzanne Hauselt for a FREE workshop on how to attract hummingbirds to your yard NOW. They migrate to CT at this time of year and are looking for nectar flowers and hummingbird feeders. Invite them to make your yard their territory and enjoy their antics all summer long!

  CT Horticultural Society Spring Auction

Hours: 6:30 pm

Bethany Covenant Church at 785 Mill Street Berlin CT.

Bid on a wide array of rare and unusual plants while learning from some of the biggest plant geeks in CT all about why they are so special! You will understand why some of the coolest plants in Nancy’s home garden came from this auction!  All proceeds go to the CHS Scholarship Fund to provide scholarships to horticulture students. (Nancy was a recipient back in the 70’s and look where it got her….)

Creative Containers for Mother’s Day Giving

Let Nancy and her talented team make a beautiful custom container for you! From 10-3 we will be planting up containers using all kinds of colorful annuals, herbs, perennials, and unique plants. You can simply watch and be inspired or you can ask us to plant a container for you while you shop.

Surprise your Mom with a Magic Moment at Natureworks!

Order a Natureworks Gift Certificate for your Mom and then bring her to the shop on Mother’s Day to “take pictures in the gardens.” Let us know when you arrive and we will present her with the gift certificate, take your picture, and send you a copy!

 



It’s Veggie Weekend! Saturday and Sunday, May 19
th and 20th

We will be stocked to overflowing with all kinds of organic vegetable and herb seedlings, blueberries, raspberries, seeds, and supplies to plant your edible garden.

We will have an Information Booth staffed with experts both days to answer your questions about planning your garden, organic soil building, spacing, succession, and so much more.

Saturday, June 2nd  – Grow a Bird Friendly Yard  

Hours: 10-11am  FREE workshop in our Teaching Tent

Learn how to create a bird friendly yard or even a patio.  We will discuss how to organize your property to provide shelter through the creation of shrub borders and thickets.  We will then learn about the many plants that you can include to provide food for birds all year round.

June is THE time to practice the important perennial pruning techniques described in our bible The Well Tended Perennial Garden. Learn how to pinch perennials to double (or triple) the color AND dramatically reduce staking. Timing is everything. Nancy says “if you are not walking out of the garden in mid-June with tarp loads of debris from this technique then you are not brave enough!”

June is the time to prune all of your spring blooming shrubs such as lilacs, rhododendrons, weigelas, and forsythias. Join Nancy and learn how to: time your pruning so you don’t cut off next year’s flowers, renewal prune for overgrown plants, as well as shape plants to increase the amount of flowers for years to come! Thursday, June 21st  Summer Solstice – Grow Elderberries!

Hours: 5:30-6:30 pm   FREE workshop in our Teaching Tent

Learn why our native elderberry shrub (Sambucus canadensis) is the BEST plant you can add to your yard for birds, native pollinators, beneficial insects, and HUMANS! We will discuss siting, planting, pruning, harvesting (both flowers and fruit), and creative ways to take advantage of the berries which are an amazing SUPERFRUIT and antioxidant.

 



Saturday, June 23rd – Herbs for Cooking, Herbs for Tea

Hours: 10-11 am  FREE workshop in our Teaching Tent

Learn to grow all kinds of herbs- annuals, biennials, and perennials. We will talk about when to plant, seeds vs. seedlings, soil, fertilizer, container growing, succession cropping, and lots more.

Saturday, June 30th – There ain’t NOTHIN’ that you can’t do in a Container!

Hours: 10-11am  FREE demonstration in our Teaching Tent

Plant guru Allan Armitage spoke these words and inspired me to create a workshop to inspire YOU to try some new ideas this summer. Container gardening is easy and fun. You can add container gardens to your porch or patio anytime- not just in the spring! Join Nancy as she puts together some very cool combos for the summer season.
