Garden Walks and more events

Nancy DuBrule-Clemente conducts themed garden walks in the Natureworks Organic Demonstration Garden on Saturday mornings during the growing season.   All of Nancy's walks and workshops are FREE OF CHARGE but on occasion we have a special event which might cost a small fee.  If so, it will be noted.  Questions are always welcomed.  Unless specified, there is no need to register, just show up.

Organic Lawn Care 101
The world of science has now joined forces with the organic movement to offer easy to use, highly effective alternatives to petro-chemical fertilizers and toxic poisons. Many homeowners use readily available 4 or 6 step chemical programs for their lawns and do not realize the danger this causes to their own health and the health of their children, their pets, and the environment as a whole.
Join Susan Holland, NOFA accredited land care professional, and learn how to have a happy, healthy organic lawn.

Beauty of Bulbs!

One in eight women will be diagnosed with some type of breast cancer this year. Most of us know someone who has been affected by this disease. Come to Natureworks to have some FUN while supporting two wonderful local organizations for breast cancer research and the support of patients and survivors.  Natureworks will donate 10% of the retail cost of all bulbs sold on this day to After the Storm, Inc. and the Connecticut Breast Cancer Coalition. We will also be featuring Pink Ribbon Plants™ and Pink Ribbon Bulbs™, whose wholesale suppliers donate a percentage of the wholesale cost of these products to breast cancer research. Your bulb buying dollars will really make a difference on this day!
Bring your loved ones and join us for two great bulb talks, bulb basketball and other fun events too bawdy to describe here!  Enter to win our custom designed 36-24-36 Garden of Blooms Box O’ Bulbs! Breast cancer survivors will be given a gift of free bulbs.

9:30-10:30 a.m.  Free Garden Walk
Designing for Color with Bulbs from February thru July
Learn how to choose the best bulbs for your garden setting, how to plant them in amongst your perennials and shrubs, and how to achieve succession of color for 6 months from bulbs planted this fall. A bulb planting plan overlaid on a Natureworks garden design will be on display.

1 p.m. Free Demonstration
Potting up and Forcing Bulbs for Winter Blooms
Nancy will talk about the difference between hardy and tender bulbs, which bulbs are best to force, and then demonstrate all different methods of potting up and growing a wide range of bulbs.

Three Great Reasons to Plant Bulbs this Fall:
1.  Bulbs don’t require any watering, deadheading, or further care once planted. They are so easy!

2.  If you have existing beds, bulbs go in between the plants. No elaborate soil preparation needed.

3.  Bulbs double the color in your gardens and offer you color in early spring when you need it most!

TOWN OF NORTH BRANFORD PLANT SWAP
Also on that day, we are hosting the Town of North Branford Plant Swap right here at Natureworks.  If you’d like to participate in the plant swap you will need to register with the town of North Branford at least one week prior to the event and they will provide you with the details.  Please contact the town at 203-315-6017 or email:  recreationsecretary@townofnorthbranfordct.com
